Since this baby is 6 months old (thanks for the detailed response), solids are appropriate. It doesn't have to be an expensive food like avocado. Besides more breastfeeding, I would emphasize trying other solids. You said her goal is to exclusively breastfeed, but that is not necessarily appropriate now.
I would approach this as something that could be a relief for her. Give the baby appealing solids when the other children are having their meals. She may not take much a first, but let her have as much as she wants. Jack Newman feels that formula is unnecessary when the baby is old enough for solids. Tell mom to nurse the baby first then offer solids as a fun activity.
Of course, she can keep working on her milk supply. I think nursing more often would be key here.
