US government puts pressure on Vietnam to weaken advertising law - yes, hurray for Vietnam for resisting but shame on the US Government for their actions.

Last week we learned that US diplomats were suggesting Filipino women should formula feed (leading to 17,000 deaths per year).

In what other countries are the US encouraging formula feeding? The US, and all other countries have endorsed the International WHO Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes. Is the US thumbing their nose at WHO? At the Code?

In the US, Government agencies are encouraging US women to breastfeed but then say "we don't get involved" when they are told what Nestle is doing to undermine breastfeeding success.

Is the US Government showing their true colors? Do they actually support what Nestle is doing because they make money when breastfeeding fails? It seems they are more interested in making money than the health of children ... in both Asia and ... the US. Shocking!

Renee (in Vancouver, Canada)
