This also sounds sort of like "dumping syndrome", where they have a sudden influx of gastric contents, which induces all sorts of issues from low blood sugar and hyperinsulinemia, to diarrhea and dehydration. Perhaps it is associated with the increase in cholecystokinin that accompanies breastfeeding? As for what to do about it in her case, I wouldn't know. Most dumping syndrome I've come across had to do with diet, or surgery on the stomach or gallbladder. Which...with crohn's she very well may have had surgery on her gastrointestinal system.
