Hi all,
PTP. G2P2 Mother of 9 month old is experiencing biting and pulling away with some breast refusal on the R side that started 3 days ago. She thinks it started when baby bit her and she startled baby with a "no" to the baby. Baby will not bite L side and nurses very well on L side. Baby will not take milk pumped from R side either. Mom states she was able to sneak baby onto R side and sneak a bottle of EBM from R side when baby was very sleepy. She has also tried to start baby on the L side in cross-cradle hold then slid her body to the baby to nurse on R side without moving the baby at all but baby instantly pushed away. Baby has 2 bottom teeth and no evidence of new eruptions. No recent illness in baby, is reaching all developmental milestones, eats solids from the table three times per day, nurses 6 times a day, takes 2 naps a day and sleeps 11 hours at night. Mom had cancerous tumor removed from kidney in December but is healthy
otherwise. No complaints of peau d'orange, lumps or breast tenderness.
I suggested she continue to try to offer the R side as she has been doing and continue to pump to maintain her supply on that side. What am I missing?
Thanks for your wisdom and time.
Rita, RN IBCLC
