Hi Sandy. I read your post re Biol Nurturing and wanted to share a story.
I am the only LC in our county for Public Health, but I have a nurse who hopes to take the exam next year. She has just been reading & studying since last spring. I was out on vacation when a problem similar to the one you described came up in our office (MCH home visiting), and they asked the nurse if she might go out & try to do something. She had watched the Biol Nurturing DVD and otherwise had limited experience trying to latch a reluctant baby. She did exactly what she saw on the DVD as you did, and got the same very positive result. The mother was thrilled and our nurse was quite pleased (and surprised) that it went so well. Our local maternity hospital is slowly introducing this technique depending on what staff is available, and I am hearing very good reports. It sure beats the old "it takes 3 adults and six hands to get my baby on the breast" problem.
Just thought I'd share. I have long believed we have 'WAY overthought this. I've listened to the speeches on the cigarette hold vs the C-hold vs the U-hold and everything in between. This is such a kinder gentler approach.
