Catherine's book does mention contraindication for frenectomy for baby with Macroglossia large tongue where the tie can be protective. I agree with Melissa it could have issues with baby compromised breathing ability.

(Right now trying hard to soak in the peace and serenity of city of lakes in the Peacock Garden - Udaipur, India. Hard to absorb the peace around since I am dealing with overwhelming feeling with two babies not being able to do direct breastfeeding post frenectomy for posterior Tongue tie one due to reattachment and other with development of Palatal Torus. Life sometimes throws up a line of challenges. Noise in my head is overbearing and silence around almost means nothing at the moment to me.. )

Marie,
There have been pediatric respiratory cases where the tongue tie was deemed to have a protective role in the short term and therefore was left untreated for the time being. I think I have a case study or abstract filed away and will try to find it and post. Although I am sure, Catherine or others will post w/ more details shortly!

PS. Feeling happy that my Hirschsprung's case baby is taking oral feeds better and we may have convinced docs that 3oz every 3hr in 30 min is an unreasonable goal...
