Dear Lactnet Friends:
The 5% figure is an ESTIMATE, someone's guess.
I heard somewhere, long ago, that if a species had more than a 3% failure
in any aspect of its reproductive process, that species did not survive.
If anyone knows of a source for this, I would be most grateful.
