PTP Hello everyone,

Mother of a 6w old boy has had continuous nipple pain (both sides) and deep burning breast pain on one side. Has been treated for thrush and Dr. will not consider possibility of bacterial infection.
Nipples have healed considerably but continue to be pinched/creased despite all attempts to deepen latch, including BN positions.
Baby has what seems to me to be an unusually long tongue. It can extend maybe 1/2" past lower lip, is somewhat pointy but also heart shaped at tip (ie from frenulum). TT was ruled out by the HCP's as he can stick his tongue past the lip...
Unfortunately I don't have a copy of Supporting Sucking Skills nor Alison Hazelbaker's book that was recently mentioned.
He also becomes somewhat 'snurffly' after nursing - which is to say that one can hear wet breathing. He is gaining very well and otherwise apparently healthy except for some reflux symptoms.
Does anyone have experience with this type of tongue? If I could find a good reference that it may be an issue the mother may pursue a referral to an ENT.

Thanks for any assistance.
Cassie Kent, IBCLC, LLLC
