Now, I haven't checked out the new dvd yet, and I am wondering if the
recommendation for a nipple shield when baby is having trouble post-frenotomy
is actually to somehow encourage proper sucking and bring out those
instincts with something firmer than the real nipple on the tongue when baby seems
not to be sucking well on the mother's real self?
~~~ Hello all,
I agree that before the release, often the NS will not improve the baby'
ability to breastfeed, for the same reason someone suggests it in the first
place, the tongue can't do it's job. I can see that in some situations,
after the release when there is the potential for better range of motion (but
not yet full range, coordination, strength, or stamina) the shield could in
effect help place the tongue in a more extended position and actually help
with learning to breastfeed. So I wonder if this is what Jain is talking
about.
Peace,
Judy
