I gathered information about this a few months ago. At our local
prison, a mother is allowed to pump and dump to maintain supply while
away from the baby. She is allowed to keep a pump with her - a manual
and electric is suggested due to varying facilities. Milk is not
permitted to be sent home due to concerns w/liability from
contamination, adulterated milk, etc. Apparently, there is concern
that the milk would be intentionally adulterated to hold the prison
system liable. I was told that that has happened elsewhere.

In a local jail, mother was permitted to pump periodically during the
separation of 3 days to maintain supply. It was not often enough and
there was a lot of conflict between mother and prison staff. Milk was
permitted to be given to the family to bring to the baby.
