". Insurance companies will be paying our fees. I repeat, the insurance companies will be paying our fees. Mothers will not have to pay out of pocket. Let's get the best rates we can, and if we feel overpaid after that we can donate the money to the charities of our choice. "

When I first started PP five years ago in the NYC area, my fee for a home consult was $150 . Now it's $240. I'm considering increasing again . Why? you might ask.....isn't $240 enough?
It's not enough when you consider the costs of not breastfeeding.......It's not enough when you consider all the time and energy and knowledge that goes into helping each dyad.......It's not enough when you consider the physical and emotional drain on the conscientious, committed LC..... It's not enough when you consider what a mom will spend on other things(like in home baby photo shoots in the hundreds to thousands of dollars).
I no longer feel guilty for charging a high fee. And I don't feel guilty for playing hardball with insurance companies- for making them pay our fees. Lets make insurance pay......we are worth it!
Let's use professional negotiators they are worth it!
