Marie,
In addition to other comments, I also wonder if it's possible the baby's tie was inadequately revised? I have seen babies whose feeding, organization and suck-swallow-breathe synchrony deteriorated with only an anterior release of a posterior tie. I have also come to be concerned about ties that are released in any situation where the baby will not have access to post-procediral bodywork. I would be inclined to evaluate the thoroughness of the procedure and advocate for bodywork for the baby.

A 2 day old infant, 37 weeks gestation, with lower than average muscle tone, had a frenotomy due to difficulty maintaining latch. Within hours, this baby had apnea episodes when placed on his back. He was admitted to the NICU where they thought the back of his tongue was obstructing his airway.

Have any of you experienced this with other infants? Could we have anticipated problems based on his lower muscle tone? Perhaps the frenotomy should have been delayed?

Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge!
Marie
