Dear Lactnet Friends:

In my job as LC for a major City health department, I do mostly teaching. I
have had the good fortune to give Grand Rounds for obstetricians,
pediatricians, and family practice doctors at some of the birth hospitals
in my City.

I've been pushing the envelope and now, after a long time, my frontier has
expanded. I am going to get to give Grand Rounds (a major presentation to a
group of hospital physicians: attendings, residents, fellows, and interns)
to OB Anesthesiologists!!! I plan to show the 9 stages of delivery
self-attachment as described by Widstrom (so they can help the mother and
her support person understand what the baby is doing), to show where the
drape and the monitor leads are best placed, to show how much is going on
with breastfeeding in the US (CDC, Surgeon-General, Baby Friendly), to
give some information about drugs used and their impact on the baby and
breastfeeding and generally give them a sense that they have an important
role to play in the initiation of breastfeeding.

I will show the cesarean section portion of Healthy Children's "Skin to
Skin in the first hour of life: Practical Advice for Staff" that
illustrates the 9 stages in the OR.

I know there are some wonderful anesthesiologists on this list. What would
be good to offer in 1 hour?

warmly, and VERY EXCITED AND HAPPY
