GREAT NEWS from the US Breastfeeding Committee that they are going to meet with Mayor Booker of Newark and the Michigan Governor's office, (to discuss their partnerships with Nestle) and release a position statement describing how such partnerships are undesirable.

Will this position statement also take the form of a press release to the media?

Maybe, if we can all work together, we can still stop Newark and Michigan from partnering with Nestle!! That would be WONDERFUL. Maria Parlapiano and I are exhausted with working on this for almost 6 months - there is no way we could do it alone. The USBC's help is very much appreciated.

The Petition to stop Newark from partnering with Nestle has been lagging recently, (due to our low energy levels) but maybe lactnetters and their friends, (including their MEN) can give it a new wind to help the USBC in their efforts. Marsha Walker, Chair of the US Breastfeeding Committee wrote:

The US Breastfeeding Committee has been diligently working to address the
issue of Nestle partnering with the city of Newark and the state of
Michigan regarding the implementation of anti-obesity programs. The US
Breastfeeding Committee will be meeting with Mayor Booker later this month
to discuss this arrangement. The US Breastfeeding Committee will also be
meeting with the Michigan governor's office to discuss the same issue. Both
of these meetings are designed to provide education regarding the problems
and undesirable outcomes of partnering with companies such as Nestle.

The US Breastfeeding Committee will also be releasing a position paper for
cities, counties, and states describing how such partnerships are
undesirable. This paper will be available on the USBC website very soon.
