Women who wish to formula feed are NOT being forced to breastfeed, they are being educated about all of the choices available to them. The 3 words I use: EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICE. Early supplementation of breastfed infants has been proven to decrease breastfeeding duration and exclusivity. What is a Joint Commission Core Measure? Exclusivity. Limiting the formula given to breastfeeding mothers in the maternity units is an evidence based practice. It is a best practice in maternal child care. Simple as that. (or not?)
