I just heard from a DME who supplies breast pumps here in MA that this is what our major insurances are covering:
Blue Cross will ONLY cover a personal pump, even for Moms with infants in the NICU. This is a change as they used to cover either a personal or hospital grade pump.
Tufts, once a policy is renewed, will cover a personal pump or a rental for 6 months.
Harvard Pilgrim will cover at this time only a rental for 3 months.
I'm not sure this a help for some moms. Our BC NICU will only get a personal pump, even for a 24 weeker. Not appropriate. And while the other insurances are covering for a short period this does not support a long term pumping mom. It is a very mixed message.
