Excellent point.  The other point I would add is that acknowledging 
people's feelings on the matter, whatever they are - a simple "Yes, I 
can see why you're bothered by that idea" or "Boy, that must have been 
rough" if they're reporting a bad experience or even just "So you're 
saying you don't like the idea of not being able to share feeding with 
your partner", or whatever, can go a very long way to building bridges.
