PTP A mother I'm supporting is having huge problems with latching: pain, pinched
nipples and inefficient feeding, feeds taking for ever. We worked on tweaking
P&A combined with some BN; the mother went off for a few days, but it had not
really improved when I saw her again.
The baby is simply not opening her mouth, no matter how patient, or how she's
stimulated, and the mother's nipples look very pinched afterwards. We looked for
tongue tie but it does not seem to be the issue; there appears to be great
tongue mobility.
There is one thing I'm left wondering about - the little baby's head is an
unusual shape, kinda conical, quite noticeable really. They checked it out
thoroughly in the hospital and they've said there is no medical issue; they
thought it was the position she had in the womb which moulded her head.
I did notice when she was feeding, that after the little pauses each time she
resumed feeding there was a very faint tremor. I think I've seen that before
with tongue ties, sort of a muscular tension, but it was very faint.
What am I missing? The mother is lining the baby up well, but it's still not
happening.
All ideas welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Eithne
