Oops - forgot about the boarder-moms: those discharged but stay over if a room is available when babe stays in the NICU.
They are on their own for food and drink. Often they get a cooler chest from home. It's only on Peds that trays are provided.
In my "perfect world" holpitals would follow the Tenet of: Feed the Mother, Let Mother Feed the Baby.
But that costs $$. Boarding is only done if babe needs to stay 1-2 days. Or it's right before discharge of a baby who has been in NICU for an extended time. Again, mom brings her own or brings $$ for the cafeteria.

Our hospital does not. The mom's are discharged, but can be boarder-moms as
long as a room is available. They are responsible for their own care and
food. The courtesy the hosp. offers is the room.
