Hello all,
I searched the archives (although I may have done it wrong!) and did not find a recent thread on this, but the FDA has added warnings to the label for methergine:
http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/SafetyInformation/ucm310728.htm
including
"Nursing MothersAddition of a warning on not
breast-feeding during Methergine treatment and for at least 12 hours
after the last dose of Methergine."
Tom Hale has a very excellent rebuttal here:
http://www.infantrisk.com/content/use-methylergonovine-breastfeeding-mothers-0
Does anyone know why the FDA has rolled breastfeeding, or rather NOT breastfeeding, into their recommendations? Any literature? I'm scratching my head here.
Thank you,
Jennifer Williams, CNM
