So, the good news...the doctor recognized the baby's mouth as a tongue tie. According to mom he said "it is a thicker more muscular" tie. [Yes, as my hand hits my head, because the frenulum is clearly flat and submucosal]. The bad news is he didn't "see" anything to clip.
So, I am spending part of my weekend writing up a little Dear Dr. letter with references and citations. Maybe he can be won over since at least he recognized it? I don't know, but I have to do something. If anyone has one of these lovely letters and would like to share please email me.
The other bad news is that the parents were still ambivalent and are now pretty certain they won't pursue other options. I'm continuing to support the family so mom can find a way of combining breastfeeding and pumping that isn't overwhelming, but I'm sad that she most likely won't meet her breastfeeding goals.
