So, I am one of those lactation boutiques carrying the new calma bottles.  I
definitely was excited about the new bottle being research based and all.
The studies they recite sounded wonderful too.  Medela's studies showed
total milk intake was greater from the breast than calma although the rate
of milk transfer and volume per suck were not different.  So, deciding to
conduct my own this morning after reading all the negative views on lactnet
. this is what I found.

 

Using the symphony pump with 21mm flange (for standard neck as well as wide
mouth) and at 6 bars expression phase (128 mmHg), I compared to avent and
the blue enfamil nipple all for 60 seconds.

Avent removed 15cc

Enfamil removed 19cc

Calma removed 30cc

 

So, yes, it appears fast!  It doesn't drip and it requires suction.  Maybe a
good bottle to teach the chomper to suck?  Hmph.
