Hi!
Do any of you who work in hospitals, have any special restrictions for storage of the expressed breast milk of mother's who are Hep B positive?
The 2011 HMBANA publication does not seem to indicate that it is not safe to store in the same refrigerator as other women's EBM--it doesn't really discuss it. If their is almost no chance of passing the virus through the milk without repeated feedings, it doesn't seem it would be a problem, and should be treated like any other mother's milk-put in labeled, dated container and that container of milk put in the baby's labeled refrigerator container.
One of my educator staff is concerned about this. Babies are treated with the vaccine and gammaglobulin because of the exposure during pregnancy....
Interested to hear if any other hospitals address this in a special way....
Thanks!
