This woman was probably given bromocriptine to help shrink her tumor, to
help her headaches. I would suggest that she talk to her doctor to see
if she could hold off on treatment until she is done nursing.
Breastfeeding shouldn't worsen the tumor.

Hi, everyone: I'm hoping that I might be able to get some information
for a mom who's in an unusual situation: After having her baby, mom
started having severe headaches. Tests were done, and a benign pituitary
brain tumor was identified. Docs prescribed Bromocriptine to reduce
prolactin levels, and have also recommended that she stop breastfeeding
because of the prolactin involved in that process. What I've read is
telling me that breastfeeding doesn't affect tumor growth as long as
mom's on the medication. Has anyone had experience with this, or can
point me to literature verifying whether it's ok for her to keep
breastfeeding? Thanks so much! Peggy Peggy Healy, LCSW, IBCLC, RLC The
