First off, aside to Jennifer and her tongue-tie story: enjoy the high!
Second: question for all you wise ones:
former client/mom with healthy nursing baby now 3 months-ish, started on
mini-pill at 2 months, then noticed baby asking to nurse every 1-2 hours (
has one 3 hr stretch at night). Baby put on meds for reflux by ped, which
don't seem to be working( from her description of his behavior). She called
me, now about 6 weeks into these issues. She said he couldn't possibly have
any more reflux issues because he's on Zantac. Now I think it's possible,
he's self-regulating nursing more often to keep himself more comfortable,
but also likely that her supply has dropped ( from her descriptions of
severe change in pumping response between 2 and 3 months, when supply was
already downregulated to stability). Moving away from reflux for now: Question:
in the case of hormonal suppression by hormonal contraception, is the
recovery of milk supply facilitated better in some ways vs others? ( She already
stopped the pill last week, started fenugreek, added blessed thistle, and
added some pumping when she can, baby does nurse so much already ,weight gain
ok for now.) I believe she has CoSleeper, and has been on the fenugreek
since last week, but the blessed thistle a few days. We talked about Skin to
Skin, acupuncture, and possibly the need for more time to recover since her
body was getting the suppression messages for a month, but I admit that is
sheer guesswork on my part. Is there any validity to what I said in your
experience? Do any of you have more experience with rebuilding a supply that
has been compromised hormonally? I know some moms never get it back (
combined pills), and sure hope that isn't the case here...
Peace,
Judy
