We know how crucial getting baby to breast within the first hours are in the following situations: Hormonal issues, previous history with low milk supply or breast surgery, maternal Post partum Hemorrhage, etc.
Is there any research that says if baby has not latched then we should start pumping in the first 6 hours. I am doing a chart for our nurses/breastfeeding algorhythm, and I have currently listed on the chart to begin "hand expression and massage within first 6 hours if baby has not had early initial contact at the breast". Should I change that to pumping...I can't find any research that says this...all say get the baby to the breast as soon as possible after birth because this is crucial to future milk supply, especially in these cases which is even more crucial.
Your wisdom appreciated. :)
