My idea would be to look for "lip ties" (as well as tongue tie) but darn those lip ties can cause some serious distress - breast or bottle feeding, they leak air. Dr. Kotlow has a link to a journal article re: areophagia due to tight frenula on his website (as well as lots of fantastic photos and info.)
I have to confess; an extra reason I'm thinking this vs. oversupply - which could also be a problem - is in the original post nationality was mentioned and I don't know about everyone else out there but I personally see a higher incidence of really restrictive frenulums in certain ethnic groups (actually i see a higher incidence of restrictive frenulums in general - I suppose I should start to keep track of incidence by nationality; or has someone already done this?)
