Hi Linda,
I looked up postpartum diarrhea and there are many many discussion
boards talking about it. So it doesn't seem uncommon. However, with
your particular client, the Crohns disease warrants very close contact
with her doctor. Why it occurs every time she breastfeeds, I don't
know. I always thought prostaglandins were associated with diarrhea
and increase during menstrual period. I couldn't find anything
immediately on the web about prostaglandins in the postpartum period.
Some of the online comments were check for pp thyroiditis, did mother
have antibiotics? (gut flora can be off or she could have c.
difficile), take probiotics was another suggestion.
