Ruth Lawrence, "Breastfeeding for the Medical Professional", recommends
cabbage leaves for engorgement. Green cabbage leaves, discard outer
layers, wash in cold water, shake off water, place leaves in sealed plastic
bag, refrigerate until cold, do not freeze, when cold, remove enough leaves
to make a flower around breasts and under arms. Leave on for 20-60 minutes,
4-10 times per day between feedings or pumpings. ( pumping more than 10
minutes and just to comfort will increase milk supply, my imput) Put baby
to breast every 1.5 to 2 hours until engorgement relieved. The cabbage can
be very effective and should not be over used. Relief may be seen in as
little as 20 min.
Hope this may help.
