A mom called me today about her two month old baby who has dark green
"spinach-colored" stools ONLY when her husband feeds him bottles when she's
at work. When she breastfeeds the stools are a normal yellow. Has anyone
heard of anything like this? It really doesn't sound like any kind of
"foremilk/hindmilk" thing----the baby is perfectly fine and content. I
reassured her that all seems fine, even though I've never heard of anything
like this. I'm having her do breast massage while she pumps and really make
sure she empties her breasts at work when she pumps, just to see if it does
anything. I suppose she could be eating something "different" at work that
could be causing the color change. She has been using fresh milk from day to
day---does not use frozen during the week.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Melinda, RN, BSN, IBCLC
