A campaign has been started to get Google to create a breastfeeding "doodle" for World Breastfeeding Week. The information is below.

Subject: Google Doodle for World Breastfeeding Week?

Julie Tardos of the Santa Clara County (California) Breastfeeding Taskforce has suggested that breastfeeding supporters contact Google about making a breastfeeding-themed "Doodle" for World Breastfeeding Week, August 1-7, 2012. (A "Doodle" is what is created when Google changes its logo for a holiday or other event, such as the 25th anniversary of Pac Man.) Julie emailed the Doodlers (that's what they're called!) about making a Doodle for WBW, but when one person contacts them, it does not have as much impact as when 1000 people contact them. So she is asking others to make this request. Here's how …

Here is a sample letter:

Hi Google -

I am e-mailing to request that Google doodlers create a doodle to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week August 1-7, 2012. This is the 20th anniversary of the designation. In the US August is now National Breastfeeding Awareness Month!

The health and developmental benefits of breastfeeding for both mom and baby are no longer in doubt. However, the moms and babies in the US and many other countries are not breastfeeding at optimal rates. The formula manufacturers spend billions of dollars annually to promote their inferior product. Breast milk is free and has no champion except nonprofits and government health care programs. It would mean so much if Google were to bring attention to the importance of breastfeeding. I am sure your doodlers can create a cute, appealing doodle to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, August 1-7, 2012.

Thanks so much for your consideration of this request.

Ann Twiggs, RD, LD, IBCLC

Please contact them and ask them (in your own words) to make a Doodle for WBW. If you're the artistic type, you could even sketch an idea for them! Thanks for your help!

Have a great day! J
