This is exactly how I teach babies to drink from a straw if mom needs to
work and the baby just won't take a bottle.
If one does this repeatedly, the baby will learn to suck when the straw
touches the tongue in midline. Then I put a second straw in the baby's
mouth, in a cup of milk (or water for >6 mos olds), the baby will suck
from both, and learn!
