I had the good fortune to meet Melvin Konner when he was visiting Israel. Since I was the native English speaker who was working at the time, I was asked to show him around my obstetrics ward, which is the only full rooming-in ward in Israel. We spoke at length about breastfeeding and sleeping practices both in our culture here in Israel, as well as in our hospital, and I shared with him a study we were currently in the middle of about total sleep during hospital stays for breastfeeding new mothers. He seemed genuinely interested.
My sense was this is a good person whose views are very simpatico with our views. I'm glad others are making the connection.
