So what can be done in a case like that? I also have a mom right now who I
have been meaning to post about, whose baby is very small and the
pediatrician is concerned about the baby's weight gain. He is almost six
months old and is now being tested for metabolic and other issues. The mom
pumps at work and when she pumps she says the milk has only a very thin
layer of cream at the top. I think she said about an inch with an 8-ounce
bottle, and she says it doesn't look rich and creamy. The pediatrician is
suggesting that her milk just isn't high enough in fat/calories.

I suggested she pump more frequently at work, but she is already pumping
every 2.5 hours, both sides at same time, with a hospital grade electric
pump.

Any advice for her?

Thanks,
Sonya Shaver, BS, CHES, IBCLC
