I am asking to see if anyone has any other ideas. PTP. Mom with 3rd
breastfeeding baby. Breastfed 1st 2 for about 1 year with minor problems. She
had flat nipples with all of them, used a nipple shield for first few months.
This child has been nursing wihtout it for 3-4 months. Mother has noticed that
over the last 2-3 months, this little girl has increasingly chomped, bit or
pulled on her nipples until now she has bleeding and pain and has blanching
after baby comes off the breast.
She said that she feels like she has managed her supply. She noted the baby
used to cough and splutter but has not done that since the 1st month. She pumps
for the ocassional bottle and gets 3-5 oz per breast in 15 minutes. She has
noted baby does not chomp or pull for the 1st am feed of the day when it is just
mom and baby in the bed, sidelying. During our phone conversation, I could hear
her 2 boys romping in the backround. I asked about baby's tongue and she said
the baby has one of the longest tongues she has ever seen. She is currently only
taking Vit B and D. She has not yet resumed menses but she said she felt like it
may be starting soon.
We discussed her coming in for a visit, using warmth to breast as soon as
baby comes off breast, quiet area to feed baby in since her age and her active
brothers may make for very disctracted feeds, posture or sidelying feeds to see
if that reduces some of baby's aggression. Baby will not take a bottle from her
but will from others, so I recommended soem pumping as she could for dad to feed
and allow soem nipple rest/healing.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
