Dear all:
On a personal note, I appreciate Rachel Myr's explanation of the effects of nitrous oxide. I recently had an experience with it when I broke my nose in Martial Arts and the ENT who fixes tongue ties also fixed my nose. I hadn't realized how much experience I had with various forms of anesthesia until the anesthesiologist came to ask me questions about my prior experiences -- 2 fibroadenomas, a surgical delivery, a dental implant, and a plate in my wrist from snowboarding. He asked why I decided to take up such sports as snowboarding and Martial Arts and I told him it was to stay healthy because my mother had a heart attack at age 52. And we both chuckled over how it clearly had the opposite effect on my bones!! I really hate anesthesia. After running down the list of what I hated about each different type of anesthesia he settled on one that he thought would leave my system really quickly -- and that was Nitrous Oxide. I personally loved the fact that I did not feel like I had been anesthetized after its use. I had no pain meds at all after the procedure. On the other hand, I know very well that not everyone react the same way to medications.
Best, Susan Burger
