Lisa, a baby in skin-to-skin contact is in a different physiological state
to a baby that is clothed or wrapped or in a crib. There are plenty of
studies looking at the baby's breathing, heart rate, oxygen saturation etc.
Sleep states / cycles are also different. It would appear that a baby in
skin-to-skin contact is in the safest place possible and and the safest
position. Societies where mother and baby share sleep do not experience
SIDs like we do in our Western culture.
