Cup feeding for infants has been studied since the 1940s! A cup or spoon is
an efficient way to get colostrum into a baby without using a bottle,
especially since colostrum is very tiny amounts. Newborns do not need the
amounts that are currently being given to newborn formula fed babies.
(That's another whole topic - amounts needed in first few days). Personally
I think of cup feeding or spoon feeding, as a short term solution, Lactaid
as a long term solution, which is probably not needed in the first five
days for a normal, healthy newborn.
