With the Time magazine cover has come many many opportunities for us to talk
about breastfeeding in social and mainstream media, and in our private
lives.
I have seen the term "extended" breastfeeding used frequently in the past 2
days.
Let's take this opportunity whenever we can, to model more appropriate and
accurate terms, and even correct the use of "extended" when possible.
How about "full-term breastfeeding" or "normal-term" or
"biological/physiologically normal breastfeeding" or even just plain
"breastfeeding"?
I'm so excited to see all the discussion that's happened in the mainstream
over the past 48 hours. I've been happily surprised to see interviewers ask
the Time editor whether the posing of the cover was appropriate (as opposed
to blasting the moms who AP). There's been articles that have used the
media interest to point to the important topics of WHY women aren't
supported to nurse beyond infancy.
