I will retake the exam, one last time and then hang up my shoes.

Subject: IBCLC Recertification
It has been a year since I passed the IBLCE exam. I am beginning to think of the recertification process and I am hoping that I am misundertanding something. I think I need 70 or so CERPs to recertify at 5 years and I will also have to pay a fee to IBLCE to recertify. I cannot figure out how to make this cost less than around $1300.
It appears to be cheaper to just re-take the IBLCE exam to recertify. I can't afford all those CERPS *and* the fee charged by IBLCE. I want to continue my education but it is so expensive. It feels like I will be monetarily penalized for focusing on my education in this process.
How does everyone else justify paying for CERPs and recertification and does anyone just choose to re-take the exam at 5 years?
