Thanks for the replies to this post, I'll be taking them on board as we can use them!

An update on this situation is that she should be coming out today - her mum is going to be 'responsible' for the baby but it means we can focus on supporting her immediate needs and preparing a complaint for later.

She is now able to breastfeed in the hospital without feeling criticised, and is using a SNS to give at least some of her topups, so things are going well on that front.

Karleen :  we have definitely been trying to go 'softly softly' while she is in hospital and she's trying to be as compliant as possible, and when she saw social services, they were excellent.

Linda - we're aiming to get her out and then make a complaint to try to improve the hospital's practice once she's settled at home.

Pat - we're in the UK.

Thanks again for the assistance, I'm sure we'll be coming back for more help when we're preparing the statement for the complain.
