Esteemed Colleagues,
Is there a Magnet/Baby Friendly HMO/LC that has a protocol on evidence based
nipple care, for the degrees of nipple integrity trauma ? Can you you please
share?
We are attempting to have a POC(plan of care), that will always be
individualized of course, to use as a guideline for intervention.
Optimal L&P is a given intervention, EBM as well.HMO's consider Lanolin and
any other topical applications as medication and treatment. Risk Management
in always involved in P&P changes.
However, Maternal perceptions & achieved relief from discomfort is an
observed outcome repeatedly, from a commercial ointment & cream. Of course,
other complimentary interventions such as cool to warm compresses, etc., are
also effective for discomfort, but supporting elasticity challenges for low
pain thresholds & sore Moms is a constant factor.
The severity of nipple trauma puts all Moms at risk for Staph, Candida as
well.
I collaborate with each OB/PEDS to intervene for pain & Nipple trauma. It is
a time consuming effort.
Thank You all,
