What I think is: do doctor's pay referral fees? I think this is illegal! Patient care, although it is subjected to business logic and principles, is still CARE. Here's an example where banding together might be helpful. Most lactation consultants - not all - don't support themselves and families by their earnings as private lc's. You cannot find a cheaper worker to do what you do and make up in volume for what you don't have in per case income. In any case, I don't know of any professional medical provider that gives kickbacks to referring physicians. And I think from my classes at the hospital that I work that this is called "inducement" and would be a violation of several Federal laws.

Subject: Referral fees
Anyone give businesses referral fees for lactation clients given? And what percentages are given. I have a local business that works with prenatal and post natal women desiring 25 percent in referral fees. I have a great referral system in place that doesn't cost me anything but a thank you card and an occasional gift card. Any thoughts?
