Rachel - thank you. I've never head it put more perfectly. May I use
snippets in my bf class?
In our midwife practise, we transfer moms to the local hospital (if
emergency in labour) or to a university-based hospital in a city next to
us. Smaller hospital - reacts if baby looses just a few ounces - in goes
the bottle. The larger hospital - they actually told a midwife they don't
worry unless the baby has lost 12-14%. (a resident at the larger hospital
also told a mom to supplement baby 60 oz PER FEED, DAY 1 aaackkk).
So, my mind started thinking that the larger hospital may actually believe
(which is sort of nice to know) that due to the excessive use of IV's in
labour, that the babies can loose 'extra' weight. While it's nice to know
some medical professionals are agreeing to that, 12-14%? They didn't want
to look at the dyad unless it was more than that. I'm glad the midwives
brought me into their care to help. this mom.
The small hospital - grrrr - I can't wait until I pass the exam and kindly
and gently, help our poor clients who have said NO BOTTLES, only to have the
babies given them in the nursery.
