That's why the initials IBCLC should stand alone, as describers of
competancy!
Years ago I wanted to teach childbirth classes. Local hospitals wouldn't
consider you unless you had RN, so I got an RN. Then I took the IBCLC exam
in 1985 and got a job as a hospital LC in 1986. I know I got the job as an
RN IBCLC, because the hospital was very afraid of a non RN IBCLC who was
seeing one of the ped's patients in the hospital and they just didn't know
what to do with her!
The main point is NOTHING I learned as a RN taught me how to work with
mothers and babies about breastfeeding.!
(But I could fill in when they needed an extra hand in L & D, nursery, and
PP :-(

your epidural" classes :-(
