Has the baby been evaluated for a tongue tie ( particularly a type 3 or 4)?
I often see TT babies who won't open wide because when they do their tongue is unable to extend over the gum. It seems like the baby knows where the tongue is supposed to be and the only way to achieve that is by keeping their mouth small.

Babe will latch well if mom is lying down but mom finds her back hurts too much - is there really one position that encourages a "wider mouth" than another - this is mom's second babe - she had NO issues with the first but this one is making her "grow old quick" and to top it off she now has to have a root canal done next week. Babe is now three weeks old and mom says things are better but still not great. Suggestions?
