Thank you Ellen for the great information. I think a lot of that will help the mother I am working with. If all goes as planned she is at the ENT getting the baby's labial frenulum clipped right now, which will hopefully provide her with relief. However I think I chose the wrong word to describe the baby's jaw. Mom called it an underbite and described it as the lower jaw/teeth extending out over the upper teeth. I did see one reference to it in Supporting Sucking Skills, and it was called a prominent jaw. How do you think that combination affects bf? I can't help but wonder if this is part of a bigger picture, considering the lazy eye and even the fluid around the ears. Mom had someone tell her that the tight labial frenulum can cause the underbite/prominent jaw to develop (baby is 11 m old now), though this is something I am unfamiliar with.
