Thank you Rachel Myr.  I don't understand either.  That's definitely one of the major mysteries here.  Mom does have a copy of the report from surgery and showed it to me and it does say that they "weren't able" to completely remove the fragments.  And it says nothing about a follow-up plan to get that done.  Mom does say her flow is almost stopped now and has been going in to be checked and the doctor is fine with her progress.  But I'm very concerned this is interfering with lactation.  The surgeon, on the other hand, told her the placenta has nothing to do with breastfeeding.  Difficult case.
