Dear Lactnet Friends:
What about asking a new mother if it is weird?
The sensation of a newborn mouthing and grasping the nipple and sucking for
life and sustenance is powerful, unlike anything ever experienced and weird.
I wonder if moms lack the vocabulary to describe that experience, so they
use the word 'pain'.
The intensity of that very first suck of my firstborn brought up a host of
reactions that I still remember, including fright.
