In some countries, double pumps are so expensive that few mothers can rent
them. Buying a double pump is virtually impossible.

I have seen quite a few mothers establish and maintain their milk production
with hand expression only. Success is closely related to mother's motivation
and commitment and her skill at hand expression. Most use no mechanical milk
extraction at all, others "make do" with the most simple mechanical (not
electrical) extractor you can imagine.

Please remember that not all the world is as affluent as North America or
Europe, and that mothers breastfeed succesfully in a wide variety of
circumstances.
